During the last week of February and the first week of March this year, Collective Campaign for Peace(COCAP) organized four provincial-level consultation meetings on the theme of “Strengthening Social Protection System in Nepal through Lobbying and Advocacy”. The consultation meetings were centered on different social protection acts, namely Senior Citizens Act (25 February 2020 in Biratnagar), Foreign Employment Act (26 February 2020 in Janakpur), National Strategy for Reaching the Unreached ( 3 March 2020 in Kanchanpur) and Poverty Alleviation Fund Act ( 5 March 2020 in Nepaljung).
The participants were the representatives working in the related sectors of government, elected representatives working in the local level, beneficiaries, representatives of organizations working in the same area, civil society, journalists and lawyers among others.
Presentations were made on these acts highlighting their background, features, strengths, weakness, areas for Improvement and analysis from a social protection perspective. Feedbacks received will be incorporated and presented in a national-level consultation meeting and the final report will be submitted to concerned government agencies.
